At hth®, we’re always here to help keep your pool water clean and clear, but what will you do with it once it’s ready for swimming? How about throwing down some three pointers and dunk shots on a homemade basketball hoop!? That’s right. We’ve developed a cheap and easy way to create an awesome pool toy, and everything you need to know in order to build it is right here. Watch the quick video and then follow the instructions below.
What you’ll need:
- 20’ of ¾” PVC pipe
- PVC cutting device
- 16 45° ¾” PVC elbows
- 6 ¾” PVC T’s
- 12 zip ties
- A pool noodle
- A basketball net
- A basketball
Cut your 20’ of PVC pipe into the following lengths:
- 3 pieces at 20” long
- 11 pieces at 5” long
- 6 pieces at 3.5” long
- 5 pieces at 9” long
Assemble the upper section of the basketball hoop according to the lengths depicted in the photo, and use 45° elbows and PVC T’s where necessary.
Cut up your pool noodle into 5 8” pieces and slide them over 5 of your 9” PVC pieces.
Assemble the lower section of the basketball hoop according to the lengths depicted in the photo, and use 45° elbows and PVC T’s where necessary.
Insert the 3 20” pieces of PVC into the lower section’s PVC T’s.
Connect the lower and upper section of the basketball hoop by inserting the 20” rods into the PVC T’s of the upper section.
Use 12 zip ties to connect each upper loop of your basketball net to the upper section of the basketball hoop.
Once you’ve completed step #7, you’ll have a fully functional and totally affordable basketball hoop! Take it to the pool with whatever basketball you prefer, and have yourself some serious fun.
