How to Use

How to Use

Why You Should Use This Product: Shock Advanced is a fast‑acting, multi‑functional calcium hypochlorite (cal‑hypo) shock that kills bacteria and algae, clears cloudy water, and helps restore visible water clarity. It does not add cyanuric acid (CYA), helping prevent chlorine lock and overstabilization.

Before Use: Test pool water and adjust total alkalinity and pH before application. Always add chemicals separately and keep the pump running.

Application Instructions

Use the entire contents of the bag once opened. Do not use this product in a floater or feeder.

Add this product during evening hours with the filter pump running. Broadcast evenly over a wide area of the pool, preferably in the deepest part.

If any granules settle on the pool floor, brush to disperse until fully dissolved. Undissolved granules may bleach or damage pool surfaces.

Do not enter the pool until free available chlorine levels return to 1–4 ppm.

Weekly Shock Treatment

For routine oxidation and to help prevent water problems, shock the pool at least once per week.

Add 1 lb (1 bag) of this product per 13,500 gallons of pool water.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is HTH Shock Advanced and how is it different from regular shock?

HTH Shock Advanced is a multi-action shock that combines fast-acting chlorine with clarifier and algaecide. Unlike basic shock, it simultaneously kills bacteria, destroys algae, and clarifies water in a single treatment.

  • What is HTH Shock Advanced and when should I use it?

HTH Shock Advanced is a multi-action cal hypo-based shock that kills bacteria, destroys algae, and clarifies water in a single treatment. Use it for weekly routine shocking, after heavy pool use, after rain, or when water starts looking hazy or starts developing algae. The built-in clarifier means your water clears faster after shocking compared to basic shock.

  • How is HTH Shock Advanced different from HTH Shock Ultra?

Shock Advanced is a versatile all-in-one formula combining chlorine, clarifier, and algaecide—ideal for weekly maintenance shocking and mild problem correction. Shock Ultra contains a clarifier, algaecide, stain and scale control, and water softener. Shock Ultra is also ideal for weekly use.

  • Does HTH Shock Advanced contain stabilizer (CYA)?

No. HTH Shock Advanced is a calcium hypochlorite (cal hypo) formula and contains no cyanuric acid. This means it delivers a powerful chlorine dose without raising your CYA levels—an important advantage when stabilizer is already at 50 ppm or above. Using cal hypo helps avoid increasing CYA, which may reduce the need to partially drain and refill the pool to lower CYA levels. HTH Shock Advanced is compatible with vinyl-liner, fiberglass, plaster, and saltwater pools.

  • How much HTH Shock Advanced do I use and how do I apply it?

For routine weekly shocking, use one bag per 13,500 gallons. For cloudy water or early algae, double the dose. Pour slowly around the pool perimeter with the pump running. Shock in the evening to prevent sunlight from degrading the chlorine. Wait until free chlorine returns to 1–4 ppm before swimming.

  • Can I use HTH Shock Advanced instead of liquid chlorine for weekly treatment?

Yes. HTH Shock Advanced can be used instead of liquid chlorine for weekly treatment. It includes clarifier and algaecide, providing three-in-one protection in a single dose. The premeasured bags also make dosing convenient. Always follow the product label for dosing and application.

  • How long after adding HTH Shock Advanced can I swim?

Wait until free chlorine levels drop back to 1–4 ppm—typically 8–24 hours after treatment, depending on dose, sunlight, and pool size. Always test with HTH 6-Way Test Strips or a test kit before re-entry. Never swim if chlorine is above 5 ppm. If you shock your pool in the evening and allow it to circulate overnight, it will often be ready by morning.
